Peter K. Hon, MD, FACS, is a partner at Surgical Specialists of NY. He is committed to providing patients with personalized care at the three New York City offices in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Astoria area of Queens, and Bayside neighborhood in Flushing. He specializes in colon and rectal surgery, general surgery, acute care surgery.
Dr. Hon received his Bachelor of Science from Cornell University and his Doctor of Medicine SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. He completed his residency in general surgery at Long Island Jewish Health System in Manhasset, New York, and his fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Hon went into surgery because he loves medicine. He loves taking care of people and helping them achieve their goals. Nothing is more rewarding to him than running into a patient outside of the hospital who is unrecognizable because they were so ill in appearance when he first met them. This fills him with such joy knowing that the patient is out of the hospital and enjoying life – the most precious gift.
A common question Dr. Hon gets is “why colon and rectal surgery?” The colon and rectum are just parts of the body that have been unfortunately stigmatized. People who have problems affecting these areas sometimes suffer needlessly longer than they have to because of such stigma. Dr. Hon finds tremendous satisfaction in being able to help these people improve their quality of life.
